I read the account 'Equality in Reality' with interest and agree with the majority of the content but I would like to know what the term EQUALITY in REALITY actually means to the author....
....this could be an interesting debate on the site???

I wrote this so I'll try and explain. It means to me people/everyone being able to be treated equally in mental health services in what I call 'reality world', the everyday mainstream world we leave in whatever their diagnosis/label/non-label etc. My experience of secondary mental health services up until two/three years ago was that you had to be seen as 'high risk' and be on the verge of a crisis before anything was done, particularly accessing appropriate psychological therapies. This has now changed a great deal, however new services are being set up without employing what I see as a lack of joined-up thinking. For example no provision or money made available for people to access sign language interpreters or interpreters until the service is fully running and not then, it is seen as an add on. Shouldn't it be part of the planning and thinking right from the start, not as an add on. There is a lot of talk about social inclusion in mental health, sometimes the may be some way to go to people experiencing being treated with equality and fairness in the reality of the mental health system. This applies to both people in primary and secondary mental care.
