Being In Charge

Recovery is being in charge of your own life and living well; developing and growing as an individual who is able to participate in full citizenship if she/he chooses. Knowing that you matter and knowing that it does matter.

love the sentiment - but isn't it a bit 'emporers new clothes' ? when did we move away from trying to get treated for mental illness as we would physical illness ? now its a question of choice? so, does that mean I choose to be depressed/agoraphobic/ocd/psychotic (insert label here) and am removing myself from the general population through choice? I think the whole concept of 'recovery' is often quite detrimental to people with long-term mental health issues and just means 'lets not spend any money or give you suitable support any more and even better.. blame you for your illness/disorder/issues cos you must CHOOSE to be that way huh? ! ' ....
